Onam is the biggest festival celebrated by Malayalees across the globe. The festival of Onam is celebrated during Chingam month in Malayalm celender (August - September). The legend has it that King Mahabali comes to visit the people during the ten days and so people of Kerala dress in the best and feasts with family members. Pookalam is very important in Onam, where every household makes flower decoration in front of their house. After that comes Onakodi where the head of the family gifts clothes to other members of the family. Then there is the biggest feasting event known as Onanasadya where variety of food items are prepared and all the family get together to feast.
